ZÜHEYDE GÖKÇEK

ZÜHEYDE GÖKÇEK

Artist born in Grünstadt, Germany, in 1967. She spent her childhood and youth there, where she had a successful and hard-working student life, had friendships which have lasted for these many years. Some bases of her personality, being sensitive towards what is going on around the world and trying to be away from prejudices, have developed in her early life. Since those days, she is not looking at people for what they are, but for how they behave.

She could not go on to the Arabic Language and Literature Department of the Ankara University Faculty of Language and History-Geography, because of the headscarf decision she took and applied in Germany. At the age of 21 she met her husband, married the same year and moved to Ankara. She has two sons aged 31 and 26, a daughter of 13.

In the tenth year of her marriage she met with Muhsine Akbaş in a Turkish-Islamic Arts Exhibition, whom she loved so much and learned tazhib from. She have loved playing with symbols, playing with motifs, creating patterns, creating a whole with a natural flow within certain geometrical references and while doing that, associating with another art form Hat (Islamic calligraphy), which also has its own aesthetic, special content and form. Since then she have been loving these.
