Selim Guventurk was born in Ankara in 1951. While working on tree models and sculptures in 1978, he took the first steps towards discovering what was to become his unique oil painting technique. Guventurk spent years developing this technique he discovered while hand-painting his sculptures and models, and he turned it into something which is truly authentic. Since 1979, he has been creating oil paintings using this technique. This original technique, which does not require the use of brushes or painting knives, has made it possible for the artist to constantly come across new ways to create, hence opening the doors for more sophisticated artworks. Guventurk only puts his work on display once they have reached a certain point, sharing the latest results of his constantly evolving technique with art lovers. Almost all of the 2000 pieces he has created so far have successfully found places not only in the hearts of art lovers, but also in their homes.
He uses his canvases to portray nature, human behavior, love, freedom; all emotions people feel and long for, and their expectations. He has worked long and hard to create easy to understand, welcoming, soulful works of art, and just like his technique, over the years he has developed a style unique to himself.
Selim Guventurk has created and continues to create paintings worth looking at. He has mastered the art of using his hands as his tools and his heart and mind as his guide to portray his emotions and create a connection with his audience.
Apart from his solo exhibitions, he has taken part in many group exhibitions as well, and he continues to work from his studio in Ankara. He has worked with RC Art Gallery since 2007, and in 2017, he held his 40th Anniversary Exhibition at the Istanbul Kozyatagi Culture Center. Since 2020, he has been working with Buyuk Muzayede.
